Pure history of wine in Spain
Founded in 1864 by Eloy Lecanda and today run by the Álvarez family, Vega Sicilia is Spain's most emblematic winery, one of the oldest in the country and undoubtedly one of the best in the world.
Since 1915, when its first two great wines, Único and Valbuena, were born, Vega Sicilia has offered its exclusive customers, a list that is not easily accessible, the opportunity to taste brilliant, elegant wines with a unique personality. The wines have been designed in the style of the greats, aged for a long time and, although they have been modernised over the years, they have lost none of their excellence and their enormous cellaring capacity. Vega Sicilia wine has the unmistakable character of the Ribera del Duero Denomination of Origin, a structure that has nothing to envy to the great wines of Bordeaux and an aromatic richness comparable to the poetry of the most exquisite wines of Burgundy.
The working philosophy of the Vega Sicilia winery is based on the conviction that the best wine is always the one that remains to be made. Moreover, harvest after harvest, they seek to get the best out of the soil and the grapes, to develop a wine that is always excellent and which will not reach the market until it has reached sufficient maturity to be drunk. The value of time is what makes the difference and it is the wine that decides the moment of its presentation in society and not the chronology of the vintages. The self-demanding nature is such that, if a vintage does not meet their rigorous quality standards, it is not produced.
