The soul of Garnacha
The winery Las Moradas de San Martín was founded in 1999, on the Madrid side of the Sierra de Gredos, to recover the centuries-old Garnacha vineyards that have been cultivated since the 12th century in the municipality of San Martín de Valdeiglesias, Madrid. Located in "Pago de los Castillejos", where the Community of Madrid meets the north of Toledo and the south of Ávila, on the outskirts of the Sierra de Gredos, the climate and the special soils of this area allow us to produce wines with a lot of personality and quality.
The Las Moradas winery, surrounded by centenary Garnacha vineyards, has simple and practical facilities, with a capacity to produce around 80,000 bottles per vintage, although production is currently lower.
The vineyard, with an extension of 21 hectares at an altitude of almost 900 metres, is located in a unique landscape, surrounded by pine forests, holm oaks, junipers, rockroses and a wide variety of aromatic plants.
The soils of Las Moradas de San Martín are sandy, the result of the weathering of granite, gneiss and phyllonian rocks; arkoses, a composition that marks its wines, with a unique profile that makes the estate very characteristic.
This is a project in which we have had to break with stereotypes and start from scratch, in order to get to know the raw material itself, without external make-up that distorts reality.
