The art of Champagne
Henri Abelé was founded in 1757 by Théodore Vander Veken, being one of the pioneers in the production and diffusion of champagne; therefore, its history could be confused with that of champagne itself. Henri Abelé's champagnes were marketed and considered drinks of kings, being the official suppliers to the courts of Spain, Germany and Belgium towards the end of the 18th century. Today, with more than 250 years of history, it is the third oldest winery in Champagne and is in the hands of the Catalan group Freixenet.
The winery, always marked by prestige and innovation, contributed in making improvements on the "méthode champenoise", such as the stirring of bottles in racks to be clarified of their yeasts before disgorging or the freezing of the lees in the neck of the bottle. They decided not to expand too much in order to preserve its essence, although it is already a reasonable size to be able to control the quality of all Henry Abelé's champagnes.
