The essence of the land
Finca Villacreces takes its name from the friar Pedro de Villacreces. Alongside him, several clergymen settled on the estate to devote themselves to prayer and cultivating the land.
In 2004, Gonzalo and Lalo Antón, who already had the Izadi winery in La Rioja and Vetus in Toro, met the Cuadrado family, who at that time were looking for a replacement for the estate. After remodelling the winery and painstaking work to restore the vineyard, Villacreces was reopened in 2007.
The estate extends over 110 hectares, 64 of which are vineyards, in a meander of the Duero River. This vineyard is divided into 15 plots that are vinified separately. All are planted with Tinto fino, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, interspersed with a centenary pine forest of great environmental value.
Finca Villacreces has a vineyard characterised by a diversity of soils, ranging from extremely sandy areas to very stony soils with pebbles from the alluvial deposition of the Duero River. The poverty of the soil naturally guarantees low yields of around 4,000 kilos per hectare.
Finca Villacreces is located at an altitude of 700 metres above sea level in an area where an extreme continental climate with large temperature fluctuations predominates. However, the forest that surrounds the estate provides a special microclimate that protects the vineyard from the rigours of the climate.
