Familia Martínez Bujanda's passion for wine came in the second half of 2000 in the Denomination of Origin Rueda (Valladolid, Castilla y León), then an emerging Spanish wine-growing area specialising in the production of quality whites with the personality of a native grape variety, the Verdejo.
Finca Montepedroso has an area of 25 hectares dedicated to the monoculture of Verdejo, with a plantation age ranging from 10 to 30 years. Located on a plateau at an altitude of 750 metres, the estate has three types of soil, characteristic of a region located in the central sector of the depression formed by the Duero River: the alluvial soil (pebbles) that crowns the plateau and makes up the largest area of the estate (70%); a clayey soil in a ravine, with a slope of 10% where the oldest vines are planted (31 years old); and a soil with a large amount of silt and clay sediments, also in a ravine and with slopes of up to 20%.
This winery is equipped with the latest technology, as the production of white wines is more complex than that of red wines.
It specialises in the production of 2 unique wines, Finca Montepedroso and Finca Montepedroso Enoteca. Two whites with a very precise winemaking process, harvested at night, aged on their lees, in stainless steel tanks for the first one and in concrete eggs for 18 months for the Enoteca.
This "crianza" is key to tame the acidity and rusticity of the Verdejo.
