The quintessential Jamaican rum
In 1654, a young Henry Morgan left his native Wales for the West Indies. He was a born leader who quickly became a captain, making a name for himself as a legal pirate, defending British interests and generally shaking up the Caribbean. Centuries later he became the symbol of a company that became as famous as himself: Captain Morgan Rum Company.
For this company's rums, American white oak bourbon casks are used, charred and filled with triple distilled rum. They are then left to rest and mature. The charred barrels play an important role in shaping the rum's flavour, helping to release the vanillin, tannins and caramelising the sugars. Ageing in these barrels also mellows the drink and helps to create the rich golden colour that is characteristic of some of these rums.
Captain Morgan is a rum with a significant depth of flavours that is aged in oak casks and has a dark, full-bodied colour and a rich, distinctive flavour that is unmistakable.
