Intense dedication to Rioja winemaking
Campo Viejo is one of the most consolidated wineries in Rioja and its facilities produce three premium brands that are present in more than 70 countries: Campo Viejo, Azpilicueta and Alcorta.
Since it was founded in 1959, Campo Viejo has undergone constant evolution, combining the best possible artisan care of its wines with the latest technology and respect for the environment. Proof of this is the new facilities: a building designed by the Riojan architect Ignacio Quemada. This new winery, inaugurated in 2001, combines avant-garde architecture, precision engineering and 21st century oenology. It is a masterpiece buried more than 20 metres underground, which provides ideal conditions for wine ageing, working with the most modern quality requirements, but always following the most authentic Riojan tradition. The Campo Viejo winery is a benchmark in sustainability: totally integrated into the landscape, it has been recognised on numerous occasions for its respect for the environment.
Campo Viejo uses 1,900 hectares of vineyards, which are located at different altitudes and on soils of different compositions, to produce the wines of all its brands. Most of the vineyard is made up of old vines, more than 25 years old, where the tempranillo variety is mainly grown, and each brand has a different approach: Alcorta uses mainly the tempranillo variety from areas located in Rioja Alta; Azpilicueta uses exclusively grapes from Fuenmayor, a village in Rioja Alta, of the tempranillo, graciano and mazuelo varieties; and Campo Viejo uses grapes from the whole appellation, Rioja Alta, Rioja Baja and Rioja Alavesa and from all varieties. In short, interesting and expressive wines that reflect the liveliness and colour of Rioja.
