Wines with their own personality
Azpilicueta is one of the benchmark brands in the D.O. Ca. Rioja. Its wines, made from the native Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo grape varieties, have managed to transmit the characteristics that define Rioja red wines.
Founded in 1881 by Félix Azpilicueta, the winery has always stood out for its vocation to promote education and love of wine. It has also been able to adapt to changing times without losing sight of its origins.
The main vineyard on which Azpilicueta wines are based is located in the town of Fuenmayor, where more than 800 hectares of different sites are cultivated. The vines are spread over an irregular topography at different altitudes in a great mixture of soils with different orientations. This results in many microclimates and, consequently, the same variety expresses itself in very different ways and can give very different nuances.
There are three grapes used in this winery: Tempranillo, which is the undisputed queen of the appellation, Graciano, which gives the wines structure and ageing potential, and Mazuelo, which adds intensity to the blends.
