The empire of the Garnacha

Bodegas Ateca, founded in 2005, is the Gil Family's project in the Calatayud Denomination of Origin and is located in the municipality of Ateca (Zaragoza), 14 km from the town that gives its name to the Denomination.

In this winery we can find slate soils, in the highest altitude areas of the zone, and it is mainly composed of old Garnacha vines.

Calatayud is an elevated area that favours the aeration of the vineyard, it is like a miniature reproduction of the Ebro basin, with its outer mountain ranges, its interior or trench and its foothills.

The vines grow at an altitude of 900 metres above sea level and are subjected to a climate with great thermal contrasts. This, together with the age of the vines, means that the plants produce few bunches, but grapes with a higher concentration of sugars.
