Alvaro Castro

Quinta da Pellada is Álvaro Castro's personal project in the Dâo. The key to his fantastic wines is the great heritage of vineyards he owns. Family vineyards, which for many years have been produced by the local cooperative, but since 1980, when Álvaro inherited the property, he decided to produce under his own brand. Old vineyards and great work in the winery result in wines of the highest quality.

The Álvaro Castro winery is located on the western edge of the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, in the heart of the Dâo region. The extreme climate complicates the viticultural work, which has to contend with extreme temperatures and late frosts. The selection of bunches both in the vineyard and in the winery plays a fundamental role. 

The autochthonous varieties are the hallmark of their wines. Red varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Jaen or Alfrocheiro are used with great results in the production of their red wines. Typicality and authenticity are undoubtedly the basis of Álvaro Castro's personal project.
