Innovative winery with a long tradition
This winery is located in the Duero river basin where vines grow as a result of thousands of years of erosion, alluvium and changes in the composition of the soil. This has given rise to a territory of great diversity.
The ABADÍA RETUERTA vineyards are spread out on the north-facing slopes, climbing from the riverbank to altitudes of up to 850 metres. This difference in altitude, combined with the different types of soil, produces variations in the yield of each plot, resulting in grapes of very different qualities.
Abadía Retuerta's work philosophy is based on vinification by vineyard parcels. The soil of each of its 54 plots has a different composition. The winery's winegrowers avoid excessive intervention as they believe that nature has an important role to play.
The winery's best known wines are Pago Negralada, made from Tempranillo grapes, the quintessential Spanish grape variety. Pago Garduña is produced exclusively with Syrah grapes. Pago Valdebellón is based on Cabernet Sauvignon. But perhaps the best known of them all (for the moment) is Abadía Retuerta Selección Especial, whose 2001 vintage won the award for best red wine in the world at the International Wine Challenge in 2005.
The Abadia de Santa Maria de Retuerta is one of the most important Romanesque works, dating from the 12th century and is located in the municipality of Sardón de Duero, Valladolid. In addition to the majestic winery, Abadía Retuerta has one of the best hotels in Spain, Abadia Retuerta "Le Domaine". A luxurious space where you can also find a spectacular Spa with a multitude of services and a selection of restaurants that will more than satisfy your needs on every occasion.
Another fact to bear in mind is that Abadía Retuerta belongs to the "Grandes Pagos de España" association. This is an association of wineries with unique and high quality vineyards, which promotes excellence both in the care of the vines and in the processes that take place in the winery.
