Aalto

Aalto is one of the undisputed references in the prestigious wineries of Ribera de Duero. Highly sought after wines from old vines located between Burgos and Valladolid.  The project founded by Mariano Garcia and Javier Zaccagnini more than 20 years ago is now considered by many as one of the best red wines in Spain.

A dream come true

The AALTO winery was founded in February 1999, in the prestigious wine region of Ribera del Duero (Spain). The founding objective of Mariano García and Javier Zaccagnini at AALTO was to produce a wine with a distinct personality, of very high quality and a faithful reflection of different villages, blending them together at the end of the ageing process to gain balance and complexity.

The Aalto winery in Valladolid

The winery currently covers more than 100 hectares of old vines with old clones of Tinto fino (Tempranillo grape variety that has adapted over the years to the physical and climatic conditions of the Ribera del Duero) distributed in 7 different municipalities in the province of Burgos, and 20 hectares of younger Tinto fino vines located in 2 municipalities in the province of Valladolid. All of them belong to the appellation of origin Ribera del Duero and the age of the vines ranges from 40 to 100 years old.

The grapes from each of the municipalities are treated separately: they are harvested separately and this separation is maintained during the vinification process and also during the barrel-ageing period.

Aalto's limited production

The production of AALTO is approximately 250,000 bottles, although it may vary from year to year depending on the vintage. The production of AALTO PS does not exceed 20,000 bottles.

After 20 years, AALTO Bodegas y Viñedos has become a reference in Ribera del Duero.

The rewards of hard work

AALTO PS wine has been voted several times as the Best Red Wine of Spain and the winery has been chosen in Paris as one of the 100 best wineries in the world in the book published by the prestigious critics Michel Bettane and Thiery Dessauve.
