What is a sweet wine?
Sweet wine is known as that whose amount of residual sugar is greater than 45 grams of sugar per liter.
It is recommended to be consumed at a temperature of around 8ºC, which makes it the wine with the lowest optimal drinking temperature except for sparkling wine (cava, champagne, sparkling wine, ...).
Types of sweet wine
Within the typology of sweet wines, we find cream wines, which come from a generous dry wine with an addition of sweet wine or concentrated must, master wines, with a different elaboration process whose result is a partially fermented sweet wine, ice wines, whose grapes are processed to freeze them and create a sweeter must, and Pedro Ximénez, the most popular sweet wine in Spain which is achieved by sunning and dehydrating the grapes.
Sweet wine pairing
Sweet wines pair perfectly with sweet desserts based on chocolate, fruits and some strong cheeses.
