The Winery
Marqués de Riscal
Marqués de Riscal is one of the original Rioja wineries. It has been making classic Riojas since 1858, but it has also been able to adapt to the avant-garde and, above all, to produce wines capable of transcending the passage of time. Today it controls more than 1500 hectares of vineyards in Rioja and owns the largest vineyard in Rueda with more than 200 hectares.

Tasting notes
Look
very covered cherry color, intense and with little signs of evolution.
Smell
The nose is very expressive with notes of licorice, cinnamon and black pepper, where the long aging in wood barely perceived, thanks to its great complexity and concentration of ripe fruit.
Taste
The palate is fresh, with polished tannins very nice, with good structure, but easy to drink. The finish is long and leaves a slight balsamic memories of great quality.

Description of Marqués de Riscal XR
The latest release from the hundred-year-old Marqués de Riscal winery in La Rioja focuses on a wine that stands out above the reserves. Where does the nomenclature "XR" come from? In Marqués de Riscal, the winemakers mark each of the barrels with different acronyms to refer to the quality of the wines contained in them. In this way, XR refers to Extra Reserva, and is a way of communicating that the content of the barrel has a quality and characteristics that make it an outstanding Reserva. Marqués de Riscal is elaborated with Tempranillo and Graciano from the vineyards located in Elciego that the winery owns, and they are given an ageing of 26 months in American oak barrels.
