Cynar is a liquor made, according to a secret formula,
with artichoke and 13 different herbs, is an Italian drink made with stems and leaves of the artichoke and is usually taken as an aperitif.
The name of the drink comes from cynarin, which together with cynaropicrin, is the aromatic compound that gives the artichoke its characteristic bitter taste. Thanks to this compound, it is good for the liver, being diuretic.
The taste is bitter but with a sweet end. It can be taken alone, although the most popular form is as an aperitif mixed with soda or juice. Due to its artichoke content it is considered a digestive.
