At what temperature should I drink wine or champagne?
Although the range of temperatures at which a wine should be drunk varies according to the type of grape usedor the ageing of the wine, there are certain standards that allow us to enjoy the wine properly.
Temperature of Red Wine
Depending on the ageing, we have young red wines, crianza, reserva and gran reserva.
Young Red Wine (Without Crianza)
Young red wines without ageing should be drunk at a temperature of around 9ºC
Red Crianza Wine
To be able to perceive the aromas, it is recommended to drink these wines at a temperature of around 15ºC
Red Reserva and Gran Reserva
These wines with a long ageing are appreciated in high temperatures, close to 17ºC
White Wine Temperatures
White wine temperature.
In white wines, ageing is not as common as in red wines, and we are generally dealing with young white wines that should be drunk cold, at an ideal temperature of around 8ºC - 10ºC.
If it is a barrel fermented white wine, such as Protos Verdejo Fermentado en Barrica, the ideal temperature is a little higher, between 9ºC -11ºC.
Rosé Wine Temperature
Rose wine, like white wine, is enjoyed at cold temperatures, around 8ºC-10ºC. While white wine has some ageing, rosé wine does not have this type of elaboration.
Champagne or Cava temperature
Champagne or cava is a type of wine, called sparkling wine, which holds the record for the temperature at which it should be consumed.
Champagne or cava should be drunk at around 7ºC, very cold!
Temperature of Sweet and Fortified Wine (Sherry)
Sweet white wine, such as Muscatel or Pedro Ximénez are made to be drunk at 8ºC, while generous wines such as Sherry, Manzanilla and Oloroso can be consumed at 11ºC
