Albillo Real 2019 "Best White Wine with Cask" in Spain by the AEPEV (Spanish Wine Association)

The competition encompasses those wines from Spain marketed in 2020 and were positioned according to a double round of voting. 146 wines and 61 spirits made it through to the final phase in the 15 chapters of this edition.

Albillo Real 2019 was the only wine awarded in this edition under the Vinos de Madrid DO. This bottle hides one of the best versions of the Madrilenian variety Albillo Real. The raw material comes from high altitude vineyards in San Martín de Valdeiglesias that are more than 80 years old.

Albillo Real and Terroir de San Martín

The winemaking of Albillo Real 2019 has always had ecology and biodynamics asthe cornerstone. The process begins with a manual nighttime harvest, selecting the best whole bunches. These are pressed and vatted until fermentation begins with the grapes' own indigenous yeasts. Subsequently, it is aged for 6 months in used 500-litre French oak barrels with periodic bâttonagess. Isabel Galindo, who is responsible for the whole process, reacted to the award as follows:

"The value of this wine is the value of the wine," she said.

"The value of this recognition lies precisely in the fact that it comes from an association with a large number of journalists and wine critics. They have valued our wine among hundreds of references and renowned brands, so being on their honour roll is a significant distinction for Las Moradas" - Isabel Galindo, Technical Director of the winery.

The tasting notes of this 100% vegan and organic white wine, we find a dense, unctuous and silky wine with a long and mineral finish, coming from the granitic soil of its plots. Galindo recommends pairing these pear, jasmine and honey aromas with blue fish and white cheeses. It works especially well with the range of Japanese or Peruvian dishes.

A well-deserved recognition for the great work done by a winery with a lot of potential that is sure to reap more awards in future vintages.
